Doubting yourself is one of the commonest things that happen. It is not uncommon to look at someone who seems to have their life in order, and wish that your life was that sorted. And while these people just seem like they always get what they want, life is equally difficult for anyone who is starting afresh. Of course, having the patience to work your way through a turbulent period is first in the order of priority. You will need to understand that no matter how difficult it seems, giving up or stopping midway can never be a viable solution.
However, losing faith in yourself is a far graver problem than a momentary decrease in the effort. When you look at yourself in the mirror and fail to see a winner, that is the toughest situation of all. A couple of setbacks are nothing that you can’t reverse, but they can hurt your self-image. Losing confidence is a problem that needs immediate attention.
But how can you regain confidence in yourself?
First comes recognizing your strengths. There is always going to be something that you’ll see you’re able to do. It could be any skill. As long as it is something that you can manage easily, you can have it as your fallback option. Marketable skills aren’t just there, you have to take a skill you possess and make it marketable. You need to find something that could be your strength, and perfect it till people need you for it. Once you realize that you are indispensable for the functioning of your workspace, you will begin to feel a lot better about yourself. Confidence is all about knowing that if you are assigned something, you will definitely be able to deliver.
But that is the practical side. Other than being confident in terms of your abilities, building confidence also makes it necessary to appear confident. Your attitude, body language, and way of talking— all of it go towards how confident people perceive you to be.
For starters, you need to brush up your knowledge or skill set enough to feel like it is something that no one can beat you at. Once you start feeling like a winner, your entire demeanor is going to change into that of a winner’s, too! Your stance, your speech, everything will evolve to fit the confidence you have in yourself. Yes, others do perceive your confidence through your body language.
Finally, the most important way to build your own confidence is to be kind to yourself. While your workspace and career are constantly going to give you enough turbulence, you need to trust yourself through it all. Being hard on yourself is not going to yield the results you want. Adequate rest periods, positive affirmations for yourself, and being assertive about what you need are all necessary to boost your confidence. Exhausting yourself in the process of perfecting your skill or holding on to your self-worth is not going to be a sustainable route to confidence. You need to be kind to yourself and give yourself the time to achieve your goals
